Sandcastle Resort, Provincetown,
MA
This was our first visit to Cape Cod and we
wanted to be sure we stayed at a resort right on
the ocean which left our choices very limited. We
chose the Sandcastle Resort because it was the only
one that had any availability and it is right on
the water with it's own private beach.
We arrived on a beautiful Saturday afternoon in
late June. Check in was simple and quick and the
front desk staff was very nice. Our unit was a
studio in what they call the Royal Coachman
building. There are two buildings at the Sandcastle
- the Royal Coachman and the Dunes building which
is not on the water but houses the indoor pool. Our
unit overlooked the outdoor pool with a delightful
view of the ocean and overlooking downtown
Provincetown which was gorgeous at night.
The Sandcastle is an older resort (we were told
that it was the 17th resort in RCI!) and is a
converted motel. Our studio was quite nice although
a bit small. There was a murphy bed that pulled out
of the wall and turned out to be suprisingly
comfortable! A queen size pull out sleep sofa
provided the other bed. There is a kitchen area
with stove top, sink, coffee maker, microwave and
small refrigerator. It wasn't large but served our
purposes well for the week as we didn't really plan
on cooking dinner every night. A full bath with
shower and a small dining area in part of the
living room completed the unit. Frankly, when the
murphy bed was pushed up and the couch closed, the
room was cozy but quite comfortable. We actually
spent a lot of time sitting on the deck and looking
out at the ocean. Our unit was on the third floor
so the views were fantastic! The unit could use
some renovation but it was neat and clean and
everything worked fine.
In addition to the indoor and outdoor pools, the
resort has two tennis courts, a basketball and
volleyball area and an absolutely lovely beach. The
location was superb as it was very close to
downtown but far enough away so it was quiet and
very peaceful at night. During the season, there is
a bus service to downtown Provincetown that makes
it possible to just leave your car at the resort
and still get to everything.
In Provincetown (or P-town as the locals call
it) itself, there are tons of things to do. Lots of
fine restaurants, wonderful little shops, theater,
dancing and great night life. The beachs are some
of the best in the world! Herring Cove beach and
Race Point are just fabulous. Canoing and kayaking
are readily available and, if you like to fish,
this is the place for you.
Overall, our vacation in Provincetown at the
Sandcastle was just wonderful. There is so much to
do, you almost don't notice the small units. We
prefer a smaller resort anyway rather than some of
the mega resorts you see in Florida. Don't expect a
fancy place, but if you're looking for a nice,
simple resort on the ocean in one of the finest
vacation areas in the world, give the Sandcastle a
try, we think you'll like it.

The Ponds at Foxhollow, Lenox, MA
A five star Interval International resort in the
Berkshire mountains of Massachusetts, the Ponds is
a great place to vacation! There are both one and
two bedroom units at the resort and if they're all
like ours, they're very comfortable and quite
large.
Our one bedroom unit had a large bedroom with a
large double bed with plenty of closet space. The
bathroom was fabulous with twin sinks and a huge
jacuzzi bathtub. We loved the towels! The towels
were the largest and fluffiest we've ever seen at a
resort. We know that's a funny thing to mention but
we're so tired of these worn out rags that most
places use for towels that these were a wonderful
suprise.
Very modern kitchen with full size appliances
and a dining area for six. Small but comfortable
living room with tv and complete stereo system. At
one end of the living room there is a working
fireplace and a lovely desk area with the phone and
a bar set up. From the dining area, you can walk
out the door to a deck overlooking the ponds and
the ponds are really something. The resort has
canoes and small boats that you can use in the
ponds and they connect and wind around the
resort.
The resort has a lovely clubhouse with an indoor
pool, hot tub, a fitness center upstairs and a very
large library with magnificent cathedral ceilings
and fireplace. There is a large screen tv for movie
nights and plenty of books that guests can take.
Outdoor pool are, basketball and tennis courts and
fabulous grounds to walk throughout the huge
acreage.
Very close by is Lenox, the summer home of the
Boston Pops. Lots of theater, restaurants, skiing
in the winter in a beautiful rural setting. The
Berkshires are often called the Newport of
Massachusetts as, in the late 1800's, many of the
wealthy New Yorkers who vacationed in Newport for
the summer would stop on their way back to enjoy
the fall foliage in Lenox. The fall is still
wonderful and we were there about the end of
September and would definitely go back. The Ponds
was one of the nicest resorts we ever stayed at. We
were renting a week when we decided to buy one from
IVS, the resorts sales company. No pressure at all
and they spent a lot of time answering our
questions and didn't try to push us at all. We
recommend it to all of our friends.
